• Gupta also released huge qty of gold coins, but not purest of pure
• huge demand for silk textiles from Roman world $⟹$ accumulation of gold with Guptas
• in 2nd decade of 5th century, Romans started preferring raw silk from China
  • $⟹$ decline of trade w/ Guptas
• earlier gupta rulers granted lands to priestly classes for religious services
  • these lands called Bramhadeya
• later times $\to$ granting land to officers as salary
  • $⟹$ led to feudalism in North, Central India
